I'm taking a meal to a neighbor who just had twins. Any ideas on somethine easy I could make?
Q. They have three other children at home, and since I don't have kids, I'm not sure what to make. I'm not used to cooking for more than 2 people. I'm looking for something simple but yummy that kids will enjoy, too. Any thoughts would really help! I like the idea of a spaghetti and meatballs type dish- have a really good recipe, but wouldn't that be too spicy if she's breastfeeding?

A. I made pizza spaghetti for my 1 yr olds birthday. I was sure the kids would love it but I was so surprised to see the adults going fpr 2nd and 3rd servings. It was just regular spaghetti but layered with lots of cheese and lots of pepperoni, I made garlic breadsticks too (freezer section) I made a really big pot of spaghetti with meat sauce and lots of finely diced bellpepper ( i love pepperoni and bellpepper pizza). Then I layered it in a really big pan and put it in the oven til the cheese on the top browned

How can I show what it will be after taxes?? If the bonus will put me at a little under 5000, then what bracket will I be at?

A. In terms of a paycheck, they will probably withhold 25% for federal (I'm not in California so I don't know the state amount, but I've seen references to 9.3%). This is a flat amount allowed by the IRS. You will also get hit with 7.65% fica/mc. The problem though, is that your bonus isn't an isolated event on your tax return. Your bonus is part of your total income. If your tax bracket for additional money is less than 25%, you'll get a bigger refund at tax time; if your tax bracket for additional money is more than 25%, you'll owe. Get 1040ES from IRS.gov. The 2007 numbers are close enough. Set up your speadsheet like I did with fields for the income items you normally have. Then have a YTD column and a rest-of-year estimate… [cont.]

I'm planning on majoring in accounting and questioning which graduate degree to obtain?
Q. I'm planning on majoring in accounting, or possibly double majoring in accounting and finance. My ultimate goal is to become the CFO of a corporation. Would a double major really be beneficial to my resume? Also, after my undergraduate studies, should I obtain a Masters in accounting, or an MBA? Any information will help. Thank you.

A. In my opinion, an accounting M.A. serves two main purposes: (1) it helps you pass the CPA exam and (2) in some states, it substitutes for the experience requirement to receive the CPA license. In other words, I've never heard a great argument for getting one.* I have yet to see a job posting that requires an M.A. You learn the principles in undergrad, so it SEEMS like most of the knowledge acquired in a master's program would be obsolete after a few years... I don't see an MBA as being very useful, either (it doesn't teach you how to DO anything). A master's in taxation is really useful if you want to go into tax, but it doesn't seem like that's part of your career goal. A second major in finance is not the way that I'd go; a second… [cont.]
