Why would a good car end up at an insurance auto auction?
Q. Looking to buy a used 2009 vehicle right now with 9,000 miles. Seller states it was purchased at an insurance auction with a clear title. Autocheck confirms this info - single owner, no accidents, no thefts, no repossessions, clear title, etc. What might be the reason this car was at the auction in the first place?

A. I work for such an auction service. Just because it is at an "insurance auction" that does not mean it was an insurance-loss car. We get cars all teh time from dealers and private parties looking to sell. These would be clean, clear title cars. They use our service because of our enormous buyer base, and the better likelihood of selling for them. That said, beware of one thing. Just because Autocheck comes back clean, and hte title is clean, that does NOT give the car a clean bill of health. It happens all the time that we get a car that has been in an accident, rebuilt, and sent through on a clean title. Lets say I buy a car, but I have no insurane. I go out and run into a telephone pole. Since I have no insurance, Im not… [cont.]

Average time before a vehicle is ready for sale on IAAI (Insurance Auto Auctions Inc.)?
Q. I've been waiting for this truck to be put up for sale FOREVER. I know IAAI has to receive the title from the insurance company before the can put the truck up for sale but its been like 3 months. Trucks that are completely wrecked that are put up after this truck sell first, but this truck has no damage so i dont know why its taking forever. I know it takes insurance companys forever to do paperwork but 3 months!? if you know the average time for vehicles on IAAI or any other salvage auto auctions it would be great. Til then, the wait continues

A. There can be many reasons for the delay. If the payoff on the truck is more than the insurance settlement, the owner of the vehicle would have to come up with the difference before the lien holder would release the title. There may be a lawsuit involved. There may be other issues with the vehicle, such as it having been stolen and the VIN altered, and there may be a delay in getting that straightened out. Without knowing the history of the vehicle, there is no way to be sure. What happens is the insurance companies have the vehicles towed to IAAI (or another company) to avoid paying storage at tow companies. The insurance companies have a special deal, where the sale company does not charge them for storage. Sometimes the insurance… [cont.]

A. You need to write a business plan first and foremost. That will be your road map for running the business and you will probably answer a lot of your own questions in doing research for the plan. Here's a good starter article on business plans

How shall I go abouts gettin my license back?
Q. I lost my license a while back and they told me after 30 days, i could get it back by "finacial responsibility" better known as SR-22. I must maintain auto insurance for 3 years straight. I was working at an auto auction where a license is required valid. I purchased a car through an uato loan and didn't think about the spike in insurance cost. I stopped paying insurance because it was more than my monthly car note. So I lost my L's... as well as my job... I got pulled over 2wice for expired tabs and no insurance and I didn't respond or pay, they never impounded my car or took me to jail. Now I have to go to court on July 11th for "Criminal driving on a suspended license in the 3rd degree" I don't know that severity in that because I guess… [cont.]

A. You knew the risk when you embarked on this little journey by cancelling your insurance. This is exactly why those laws are in place. I was hit by an uninsured motorist about 6 years ago and it ended up costing me about $40,000. I am sorry but I don't have lot of sympathy for you. Maybe some jail time will help you think about your responsibilities and how you are going to meet them.

A. Unfortunately the lobbying interests of the car dealers have made it tough for anyone else to buy and sell cars. To buy in a dealer auto auction you have to be a registered dealer...that is as it should be. Dealers have made the investment of opening and operating a business and it is not right that they should have to compete with the general public when buying. This leaves you to find your cars elsewhere...which for you is a good thing and this is why: Dealer auctions are fast moving. From the time the bidding starts on a car until it is sold is 30-40 seconds. If you don't know what you are doing, you could lose a lot of money FAST. You should look for cars that are for sale by owner. Some are really good deals. You may have to look… [cont.]

Asked by bigbudballer - Fri Apr 27 20:12:25 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That is a strip shop vehicle if I ever saw one...police likely caught them when they just got started... Unfortunately, you aren't gonna like the assessment... The dash alone, with everything that is missing, will likely run 3 to 4 thousand...the console, shifter, seats, etc. another 2 thousand at least... Outside, they only began with the front, so you need about another 2 thousand, maybe 3 thousand worth of parts to get the engine compartment, lights and grille in working order... So, ultimately you are looking at 10,000 to start, and that is actually conservative...ask yourself why it was in an auction to begin with. The insurance company wrote it off as costing too much to repair...remember, you are talking ALL brand new factory… [cont.]

How do you drive traffic to your website using youtube or myspace?
Q. I'm trying to get more people to my website It has free tips on how to lower your auto insurance premiums. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

A. Here's my suggestion. I think you need to evaluate your site before you generate traffic to it. You seem to want to share advice on insurance savings. That's great! People are searching for options. You have a great niche. Your site is more like an article/ezine or press release. At seems as though you generate an income from pay per click ads. Before you generate traffic, I would suggest that you expand the content of your site. This will keep people on your site and will widen your net, increasing traffic and ranking on the internet. It can also help you to expand your pay per click income. If you would like some free advice, feel free to email me with any questions. best wishes & happy holidays!

Q. I was debating with someone at an auto auction who was buying a car for their kid. they asked me what was a good car and i said for a teen get an old cop car as they are big and safe as gas is only a part of owning a car insurance and repairs second. small cars anything smaller than a ford taurus or honda accord etc was unsafe for a new driver at least for a couple of years. who was right!

A. I would personally get anything that has airbags, and also take into consideration how reliable the car is. You can never go wrong with newer Honda's and Toyota's. It is worth paying a little more money for piece of mind.

Auto Respossession after filing a bankruptcy!?
Q. I filed a bankruptcy in March 03 and purchased a 1999 Ford Windstar in October 03. I had never missed a payment. In January 04, I was 30days late on a payment, a representative called me regarding the payment and I expressed to her that I would make the payment the next day by Western Union. Later on that night someone called my phone stating that he was an agent and was there to collect my vehicle. I was in disbelief because I had just talked to someone less than two hours ago regarding the payment. The person proceeded to drag my front wheel drive vehicle from my parking spot to another end of my apartment complex I ran outside and he stated that I had to give him the keys and my vehicle was delinquent. A. I'd check the terms of my original note. Everything they did from the point of taking posession on is probably legal. Your only argument IMHO would be did they have the right to take posession based on what you tell us is one missed payment. A very extreme situation; but having given you a loan and seeing when your bankruptcy was and the vehicle you got, I'm betting you either went to a buy-here-pay-here dealer or a subprime lender arrangement that probably wrote you a contract that allowed them to take the vehicle back pretty quickly. (You seem to have had it 3 months and then missed a payment; that's not good) If they followed the terms of the agreement to the letter, you'll throw good money after bad with an atty and court costs.

Statute of limitations on claiming stolen vehicle in NJ?
Q. Is there a statute of limitations on claiming a stolen vehicle in New Jersey to auto insurers. The story goes about 6 months ago I had a car parked on a street for several weeks. When I went back to get the car I thought the car was towed and then was soled at auction because thats what they do with unclaimed vehicles that are towed. I called the Parking authority and they told me that the car was never towed or sold and that I should call the police and claim a stolen vehicle. So A. can I file a police report for a stolen vehicle 6 months after the fact it was stolen, and B. does anyone know if there is statute of limitations on claiming stolen vehicle to the insurance company the car had Full Coverage on it at the time.
