Is there anywhere in the Dallas area where they will buy glass to recycle?
Q. I've only been able to find cash for cans and I have a lot of bottles that I just throw away at work. Is there any place in Dallas that will give cash for bottles or any other goods besides cans? Thanks.

A. You're supposed to just give it to recycle because its the right thing to do. They need the money to stay in business.

What are the reasons why Dallas has never beat the Warriors during the season?
Q. The Warriors is the only team Dallas has never beat this whole season. So what are the reasons for this? What does Golden State have that affects Dallas so much? Warriors are 3-0 against Dallas. Keep that in mind. Although the last one was a given.

Q. Please ONLY answer this with real responses please. I am wondering if you were to take a bus or shuttle from Dallas or Houston to Houston or Dallas, how much would you pay one way? What do you think is reasonable and realistic. It would be a shuttle from either of the downtowns to the other downtown.

A. For Greyhound a one way trip from Dallas to Houston would be $33.20 (non-refundable) or $48.00 (refundable). The cost is the same either way.

What was the original purpose of the abandoned road in Dallas that is east of Junior Drive?
Q. In the Kessler Park section of Dallas, at the place where Junior Drive makes an abrupt right hand turn and heads south instead of continuing east, there's a concrete road, blocked off by wooden posts. It runs for about a half a block, in an area that, even though it is very near downtown Dallas, is still largely unused, vacant and lonely land. It looks like it was originally an extension of Junior Drive, following Coombs Creek to the east. It's been blocked off like this for at least 42 years. What was its original purpose?
Asked by David M - Thu Apr 23 04:19:22 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Without going out there and looking closely (I live in HEB), just going by the map, I"d say the land is probably unstable due to being so close to the river and thus is probably considered flood land.

What are the best employers in the Dallas, TX area? How is the job market?
Q. I have a degree in global management and comm; my background employment/experience includes customer service, but more recently the focus has been 2yr colleges and 4-yr universities. I am not utilizing my degree in the position I have now but would like to find a job requiring a Bachelor's. A. I feel bad that no one has answered this yet. I wish so bad that I could help you. If no one answers you aside from me you may try putting this question in the Dallas category under Local Businesses. It's easy to get to. Simply click on the 'Local Businesses' category. Then find the United States and click on it. Then select 'Dallas'. People who have the answers you need may check that category regularly and more often than this category. Congratulations on moving to Dallas. I have been all over the country and Dallas is my favorite city. It is so interesting and I love the people. And since I am, so far, no help in this question, I will give you my personal opinion on the best towns to live. You will definitely need to pick a town close… [cont.]

Is dallas worth moving to from denver for work?
Q. I am currently going to school in Denver for my bachelors in criminal justice. I recently got recruited to apply to the Dallas police department. I got accepted and am trying to figure out if it is worth it to move out there. The starting pay is basically $41k. Is that enough to live out there comfortably? Is it a nice area to live in?

A. An income of $41,000 in Dallas is the same as an income of $47,000 in Denver. If your wife has an income as well, you can afford to live in a nice neighborhood in a city with good schools. I would not live in Dallas (unless it's North of LBJ Freeway). Working as a policeman in Dallas is a dangerous job if you have to work in one of the higher crime areas, but that's true of any large city. Dallas is NOT the "murder capital of the US". New Orleans and Detroit have recently held that title. As a matter of fact, when you rate a city by "dangerous crimes", Dallas isn't even in the top 25. Richardson, TX is a city just North of the LBJ Freeway and Dallas. The city has low crime and great schools. The University of Texas at Dallas… [cont.]

How can my wife find an elementary teaching job in the Dallas area?
Q. We are relocating to the the Dallas area, more specifically McKinney. My wife has applied at over 20 districts in and around Dallas in hopes of getting interviewed for a job. Unfortunately we are now close to July and she has received no phone calls. She has been attempting to visit schools and talk to principles but has not received a lot of attention from the schools. Is she doing something wrong or are we doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My wife is a terrific person as well as caring teacher and has great recommendations from her previous school.

A. Whether or not your wife hears from the districts she has applied with is going to depend on a couple of factors. The first being what her certification is in, and whether or not it is from Texas. If she does not have a TEXAS teaching certification, you will need to have her check with the State Board of Education to see what needs to be done to have her licensed here. This could be as simple as taking the ExCet test or could require more effort. She probably will be able to get an emergency certification if she is in an area that teachers are desperately needed in. This will get her one year to fulfill the requirements of SBEC (State Board of Educator Certification). Call or check with them if this is the case. The second thing that… [cont.]

How can I fight a homeowners association in Dallas area to install solar panels for pool heating?
Q. Are there any new bills on the legislative agenda that works with homeowners in the Dallas Metroplex area that want to install solar panels on roofs, but the HOA's disapprove?

A. Builders associations may have some experience with that. Change the rules of the association. Your congressperson may have some ammo for you to use considering the tempo of things over the last few years and for those to come. You might e-mail This Old HOuse or Ask This Old House they have info, image, and velvet hammer clout being a respected group. Perhaps one of them might recommend or supply someone to educate your association.

A. I haven't checked the rates recently. However, I recommend the Embassy Suites Hotel (Northwest Hwy). The rooms are nice, the service is good and every morning you are there you get a full breakfast buffet complimentary. You are saving money with at least one or two meals here because you can eat from pancakes to waffles, from eggs to omelets, etc. For a nice evening meal out, I recommend the Grand Lux Restaurant located at Galleria Mall or McCormick's Restaurant located at North Park Mall (Northwest Hwy). You can travel by bus to many spots by calling Dart Transportation 214-979-111 and they also have Dart Train that will take you pretty much anywhere you want to go. Hope your stay here will be memorable and may the angels of the Lord keep… [cont.]

What is the weather and temperature like all year in Dallas Texas?
Q. We are relocating to Dallas texas, and are wondering what the weather is like all year long. Also, if somebody could help us with any details or inside information we need to know about living in Lewisville Texas we would appreciate it? We heard that you can pick certain energy companies. Is that true? How soon do we need to transfer our Michigan license plates and licenses to Texas licenses?

A. Welcome to Dallas. Hope you like it here. OK.. things you really should know. - Lewisville is OK. Good location, near major highways. It has good and less desirable parts of town. - Lewisville Schools are OK. Not rated as high as nearby Coppell or Flower Mound. - Do not go to Lewisville Hospital. They are completely incompetent. Baylor and Presbyterian Hospitals are the best general hospitals in DFW. - Texas electricity is de-regulated. Think rip-off. I generally stick with the larger companies: Reliant, TXU, Direct Energy and sign a contract for the lowest rate. TXU is raising rates. Reliant just dropped their's. - For nearby entertainment, I would suggest reading www.dallasnews.com and www.guidelive.com. Nearby Grapevine… [cont.]
