Phillips conducts auctions in New York, London and Geneva in the areas of Contemporary Art, Photography, 20-21st Century Design, Art and Jewellery. Phillips also handles private, an auction house that was the third largest in the world during the 1990s. They were joined in the enterprise by Sir Angus Grossart Born in Lanarkshire, he was schooled at The Glasgow Academy and studied law at Glasgow University. He proudly recalls honing his business skills at a Barrowlands stall selling reject toffee, who is Chairman of Noble Grossart, one of Scotland’s leading Merchant Banks and a past Chairman of The Trustees of the National Galleries of Scotland Museum of Scotland · National Museum of Costume · National Museum of Flight · National Museum of Rural Life · National Museums Collection Centre · National War Museum · Royal Museum. The firm has a transatlantic alliance with the United States' oldest auction house, Freeman’s of Philadelphia.
Notable sales have included L. S. Lowry Laurence Stephen Lowry was an English artist born in Barrett Street, Stretford, Lancashire. Lyon & Turnbull is based in Broughton Place in Edinburgh, in a neoclassical building designed by Archibald Elliot Archibald Elliot was a Scottish architect which was built in 1821.
